OncoK9: Cell-free DNA Based Liquid Biopsy for Non-Invasive Cancer Detection and Characterization
Andi Flory, DVM, DACVIM (Oncology), PetDx Chief Medical Officer
Awareness is growing that cancer is a disease of the genome. Liquid biopsy testing offers an effective, non-invasive means of identifying cancer-associated genomic alterations from a simple blood draw, and this technology is becoming rapidly adopted in both veterinary and human medicine. OncoK9, a multi-cancer early detection (MCED) liquid biopsy test is uniquely positioned to revolutionize the detection and characterization of cancer in dogs. An overview of cancer genomics and blood-based ‘liquid biopsy’ testing using-next generation sequencing of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) will be provided. Data from the clinical validation study of OncoK9 in nearly 600 dogs will be reviewed, with particular focus on detection of commonly encountered canine cancers and cancers that are difficult to diagnose using traditional biopsy methods. The presentation will conclude with a review of case studies involving the use of OncoK9 as a screening tool and as an aid-in-diagnosis.
